Job Summary

CenturyLink has an immediate opening for an Operations Technician 3. This individual will monitor and maintain the CenturyLink Global Transport Telemetry Network and is the first level escalation for their shift. In addition to the specific responsibilities listed below this individual should possess leadership abilities and will provide on-the-job peer training for their peers.

Job Description

  • Opens trouble tickets and works the repair of network equipment and facilities with field operations, tech support and off-net providers.

  • Knows equipment specific maintenance procedures and can assist field ops in card swaps and equipment restoral.

  • Takes the lead in driving equipment and facility repair.

  • Knows transport network topology and can make final go/no-go decisions on maintenance based on current network status.

  • Analyzes network events and identifies critical issues, setting appropriate priorities to maintain 99.9999% network reliability.

  • Able to follow MOPs, anticipate problems, and take corrective action proactively.

  • Understands and researches technical issues through vendor documentation.

  • Has thorough understanding of telecom, network topology and CenturyLink repair procedures.

  • Able to interpret and understand network and standard protocol to repair transport device communication, such as TCP, and X.25.

  • Works with minimal supervision in a NOC environment and is available to work after hours as needed.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent education and relevant experience

  • May require technical certification

  • Minimum 8+ yrs related experience in specific area or equivalent with 5 years of NOC or field experience

  • Expert in SONET, SDH and DWDM equipment maintenance and troubleshooting

  • Working knowledge of TCP and x.25 protocols

  • Knowledge and experience with fiber optics

  • Knowledge and experience protection switching schemes
