This Engineer II position is for a supportive role implementing Security Technologies and Innovations in a Global Security Operations Center (GSOC) environment. The center operates 24x7x365. The GSOC function is to provide customers with constant monitoring, protection, prevention, detection, mitigation services as well as Firewall and VPN support.
This position will be responsible for providing the technical support to help support and implement DDoS Mitigation Services. This position will also provide additional support Managed Network Based Security firewall (cloud-based) and some Managed Firewalls VPN (Premise Based).
We are 24/7/365, thus requires some flexibility in schedule. Current needs are in swing shift (12 PM to 8 PM) and also morning shift (7 AM to 3PM)
Work typically within a single engineering discipline impacting steps within a project or process.
Ranges from limited and closely supervised contact to routine unsupervised contact with customers and contractors for the purpose of collecting and sharing information.
Frequent contact with peers and others within discipline for the purpose of collecting and sharing data. May also act as primary contact for discipline-specific information on projects. Updates manager, supervisor, and higher-level engineers on status of assignments, tasks, and projects.
Regularly provides guidance/assistance in training of less experienced technical employees within their group. Shares technical knowledge with others.
Specific direction – detailed guidance relates mostly to specific objectives, critical issues, and all concepts. Follows standard practices and procedures.
Requires Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 2 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Good understanding of IP Routing background is a must for this job. CCNA certified engineers or candidates with equivalent experience (2 years experience in IP routing) will be preferred. Experience and knowledge of IP Security and Firewalls would also be required.
DDoS Mitigation – some experience in any DDoS mitigation application is desired; Arbor background is a plus. The ability to implement complex mitigations for external customers experiencing DDoS attacks will be part of this skill set. Networking skills (i.e. – routing and switching background) would be required to be successful in this area.
Federal government – for the Networx (MTIPS) program, provide operational support on the Fortinet platform. Coordination efforts with third-party vendors and CTL groups (FedNOC, Tech Management). Networking skills (i.e. - routing background) would be required to be successful in this area. Fortinet experience is a plus. Need very good communication skills to prepare MOPS for scheduled maintenance involving multiple support groups.
Managed firewall – some experience with firewall and VPN (IPSec and SSL) technology desired. Knowledge on one or multiple platforms (Fortinet, Check Point, and Juniper) is desired. Architectural expertise desired but not limited to the areas of stateful packet inspection, address translation, denial of service, URL filtering, content inspection, content reporting, configuration and change management.
Good incident reporting skills are desired; forensics background is a plus. The ability to provide consulting, policy reviews, training, security audits and advisories, as well as support for malware/DDoS attacks, internal compromises, and other malicious events will be part of this skill set.
Good troubleshooting skills, including but not limited to TCP/IP stack protocol analysis, wireshark, application layer protocols and regex.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
