Job Summary

The Customer Service Technician responsibilities include, but are not limited to: installs and repairs single and multi-line residential and business accounts. This position maintains and repairs outside plant cables, which include, copper and fiber, which are underground, direct buried, and aerial. Must be able to work overtime, and take callouts. Excellent customer and team skills are required.

Full-Time Temporary: will be scheduled to work a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week. Eligible for Medical coverage after 90 days at premium contribution rates without company subsidy. Will be employed with the understanding that his or her employment will last for a limited period of time, not to exceed six (6) months.

Job Description

  • Job requires specialized advanced vocational skills (generally non-theoretical) acquired on or off the job, typically gained through a combination of education and relevant experience, totaling 4 years post-high school or equivalent.

  • High school graduate or equivalent, an associate degree in electronics, or 2 years work related experience or must have completed 12 college credit hours in computer science or electronics subject to company approval.

  • Possess and maintain valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.

  • Accept call-outs and overtime as a condition of employment.

  • Satisfactorily complete company schools: AC/DC; Basic OSP, Service Tech Modules 1, 2, 3, Basic Transmission and Noise Mitigation, and Cable Repair.

  • Successfully meet physical requirements; work aloft from ladders, platforms, poles (with climbers), and bucket trucks; safely lift, carry, set up and secure 75 lb ladder; able to load/transport standard nitrogen cylinder.

  • Possess strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Possess a good attendance, work and safety record.

  • Work from oral or written instructions with the ability to plan work without direct supervision.

  • Have neat and legible handwriting

  • Possess proficient personal computer operation skills.

  • Must be able to work with internal and external customers

  • Successfully complete the trial period outlined in the labor agreement

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED.

  • Two (2) years of current telecommunications industry experience in one or more of the following areas: installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial, buried and underground wire and cable; High Speed Internet; station equipment.

  • Prior experience in a customer facing or customer service operation.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for communicating CenturyLink’s products and services to customers.

  • Working knowledge of PC’s, including basic computer operational tasks.

  • Ability to handle 28-foot extension ladders (up to 75 lbs) and manhole covers (up to 150 lbs).

  • Ability to work in confined spaces.

  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and at various hours of the day/night.

  • Ability to respond to after hour call-outs, work overtime, shift, weekends, and holidays as required.

  • Ability to travel overnight as necessary for business requirements and training.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, with proven ability to safely operate company vehicles and equipment, and maintain a safe driving record.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Training on basic IT and network fundamentals.

  • Experience or training in how to read and interpret outside and subscriber plant facility records.

  • Internet protocol telephony exposure.

  • Electronics training or experience that demonstrates knowledge of AC/DC theory.

  • Knowledge of analog and digital transmission.
