Job Summary

The Technician I – Voice, should understand Voice Network functions such as SS7 signaling or SIP protocols for Soft Switch or Circuit Switch Voice Platforms. With minimal supervision, performs tasks associated with the maintenance and installation and change of company voice network. Solid understanding of telecommunications, responsible, excellent communication via phone, email and in system notes. Have a working knowledge of Windows operating systems is expected.

Job Description

  • Strong technical skill level working on complex assignments within the network systems installation and/or maintenance activities.

  • Technician for customer/company network systems installation and/or maintenance activities.

  • Resolves complex network problems involving power, network hardware and software, lines, modems and terminals.

  • Uses software and hardware tools to identify and diagnose network status and problems

  • Conducts complex network monitoring equipment installation and maintenance activities, and resolves complex trouble tickets

  • Entry level experience and/or knowledge of at least one of the three major technical disciplines: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7) and TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols)

  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Ability to effectively prioritize workload, resourceful, innovative, and creative

  • Ability to work extra hours as needed

  • Work in a fast-paced and ever-changing 24x7 environment, work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays

  • Efficiently install, change and repair services on the network and coordinate and perform complex migrations

  • Answer incoming customer calls for troubleshooting and informational needs, provide accurate and consistent customer communication during established intervals using phone, email, and ticketing notes

  • Operate in multiple systems and databases

  • Work with internal peer teams to assist with customer trouble resolution


Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED or 5 plus years of relevant job experience. Relevant job experience is described as: • Job experience in similar industry • Job experience with similar essential duties. Physical Requirements: • Office – Sits 5 to 7 hours per day; Bend, reach, stoop and crouch; lift 10 lbs.

  • Attention to detail with good organizational capabilities

  • Ability to prioritize with good time management skills.

  • Must be willing to work on call including weekends or holidays to support the operations staff

Preferred qualifications

  • Associate degree, or equivalent education and experience

  • 5 - 7 yrs. related experience or equivalent in Telecommunications/Electronics or another relative field

  • May require technical certification
